Assessment and Current Treatment
Modalities in Wound Care

Contact Hours: 6.75 CNE

This seminar is designed for healthcare clinicians who want to further their knowledge in caring for the patient with a wound. The anatomy and physiology of the integumentary system, aspects of comprehensive wound assessment, potential treatments, and acute and chronic wounds will be reviewed.

Chronic wounds, which come from underlying disease, are often the most difficult for the bedside clinician to evaluate. The common and uncommon pathological disease states will be reviewed to provide the clinician with the knowledge to recognize the etiology of the wound and to analyze the assessment data to provide effective care leading to wound healing. A holistic approach to assessment and care of the wound patient is demonstrated throughout the seminar. Case studies are used to enhance the assimilation of knowledge.

A review of the following is incorporated into this interactive seminar:

• Wound etiologies
• Wound assessment

Recent seminar participants had this to say about "Assessment and Current Treatment Modalities in Wound Care”

“Outstanding session! Michelle was super-awesome with so much knowledge to share!! The information presented will help me better assess my patients and care for them in the acute care setting.”

“As a home care nurse, I will use this information daily. It has advanced my assessment techniques, taught me different types of treatments to use and will help to provide clearer education to patients.”

“Lots of very valuable information presented for all nurses dealing with wounds. The information was specific and directly related to daily practice. This is especially helpful to staff when the wound nurse is not available.”

“I loved this session! It was easy to understand and so informative! It helped me to identify types of wound/ulcers and the best treatment for the patient. I learned advanced assessment techniques and about types of products not used in my facility and how to select them based on the needs of the patient.”

“Michelle covered a lot of very valuable information that is lacking in a small rural hospital with no access to a WCON. This will definitely impact the care we give to patients and will help with staff education and developing competencies for bedside nurses.”

“As a result of this session, I will be able to apply many of the preventative measures in communication with the aids and how this can help in reduction or worsening of skin conditions. Thank you!”

“Very enjoyable session. I am currently doing a skin nurse position, and this has greatly enhanced my knowledge on the recognition of various types of wounds and the appropriate treatment.”

“This will be very helpful in the assessment and documentation along with communication to the providers.”
